What a Single-Lead ECG Snapshot Can—and Cannot—Show

A supported smartwatch ECG feature records electrical activity through a single lead during a short, still capture. The result may help you keep a dated personal snapshot. It is much more limited than a clinical ECG that uses multiple leads and is interpreted in a medical setting.

A calm, still capture can support a cleaner personal record.

What it can support

A clean snapshot can document that moment and help you remember when something occurred. When combined with notes about activity, symptoms, sleep, or medication timing, it may give a healthcare professional useful context for a conversation.

What it cannot establish

A wearable snapshot cannot rule out a problem, explain every symptom, or provide a complete diagnosis. Automatic labels can be limited by motion, poor contact, signal quality, heart rate, and the algorithms used by a particular device. A normal-looking result does not guarantee that everything is normal.

Use it responsibly

Keep the watch secure, remain still, and follow the contact instructions. Save the original record when possible and avoid editing it. Do not change medication or delay care based on the trace. If symptoms are severe or urgent, seek immediate medical help rather than trying to capture another ECG.
